Pipeworks Abduction Coffee Break
Style: Imperial Stout
Bottled: Dec 2012
Size: 22oz bottle
Here’s a coffee-infused version of a somewhat subpar imperial stout from Chicago. It carries with it some of the limitations of it’s sibling — too much acidity and char and an acrid anise note, and has a metallic finish that I’m not fond of. That being said it definitely improves as it warms, almost like a different beer. It gets creamier and the metallic note fades, and the coffee is more prominent.
I generally like everything I’ve had from the Chicago area; so far I’m not wild about Pipeworks, although it should be said that I’ve only had a couple of versions of one of their beers. Hopefully someone will send me a better example that illustrates why I keep hearing about them.
